Worm business is our business!

How it all began…

Have you ever wondered how Wormy Works Inc. started?

We are a company run by a class of nine to eleven year olds. This is the first business we have started and are very excited about it! 

After doing much research and work on sustainability and being ‘green,’ as this was our class inquiry, we decided that we wanted to create a company that would be sustainable and give back to the environment. Since we have a school garden and already collect ‘food scraps’ we took what we know and have and used it as our inspiration. Wormy Works Inc. was born…

First of all we decided we would sell worm fertiliser to help other people’s gardens grow, as well as make some profit for our school garden and class. Secondly our class organised a discussion to figure out what departments we would need for our company (more research was done here!).  Based on the wealth of skills and talents that our classmates already provided we were able to organise ourselves into different teams e.g. the arty amongst us applied for the design department, finance was filled with the mathematicians amongst us! However, we didn’t want to be a static organisation so we soon up-skilled one another and have moved around the different departments.  Some of the early roles have included; coming up with a company name, logo, prices, a mission statement, and creating this blog. 

The product: Our product is made 100% organic. It is made out of worm juice, rain water, and a whole lot of food scraps-we take from the Earth and give back to the Earth! 

The process: First, we collect food scraps from classes around the school in worm bins, next the worms eat it up, then, well you know what happens ( it comes out the other end J) and you know with the typical Auckland weather. That’s right. RAIN@ Finally the rain mixes with the juice and falls into our buckets when we collect them. Simple. Good for your garden. Fertiliser.

Company: Our company isn’t just about making a profit; it is an experience for us all and has taught us already many skills already and how live a more sustainable life simply. We also want your garden to shine and encourage you to grow your own veges and start your own sustainable life! Because of this we have created a company to help make YOUR garden bloom.
